Introductory CAT Courses

Introductory CAT Courses

"A clear introduction to the principles and practice of Cognitive Analytic Therapy"

ACAT CAT Introductory workshops aim to stimulate interest in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT). Usually held over one or two days, their provide a clear introduction to the principles and practice of CAT. You have opportunities to try out methods used in CAT, and evaluate your interest in the model. Through attending an introductory course you can identify next steps for training or supervision in CAT if you want to learn more.

Please note that Introductory Courses are not ACAT-accredited trainings, and do not equip you to offer CAT as a psychological therapy.  The courses are not assessed and hence do not lead to any sort of CAT qualification.

Is this course suitable for me?

CAT is relevant in a broad range of health and social care settings, including those supporting both mental and physical health.

Introductory CAT courses are open to counsellors, nurses, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, psychologists, psychological therapists and practitioners, social workers, occupational therapists, and other health and social care professionals interested in learning more about Cognitive Analytic Therapy.

Generally, participants will need some familiarity with the use of psychological ideas and methods in responding to mental health difficulties and emotional distress.

If you are applying for CAT Practitioner Training, your preferred training centre may expect you to have completed an Introductory CAT course already.  Attending one of ACAT's introductory courses will satisfy this requirement.

Non-ACAT Event Options

Some CAT training centres and other members offer introductory courses. Please note that these are not run on behalf of, nor sponsored by, ACAT.

Bespoke CAT Introductory days

Organisations and NHS Trusts sometimes enquire about how to go about arranging a bespoke introductory CAT course to fit the specific needs of their service, staff or teams. You can search our Directory of CAT Professionals to find experienced CAT therapists and trainers who may assist you.
