AT Cumbria's aims are to:
- Increase access to CAT for local residents
- Be a support network for CAT therapists working in rural or remote areas.
- Sustaining clinicians who are in the role of sustaining others.
- Encourage “townies” who assist the network to enjoy the restorative feel of the Lake District
Meetings are valued for their informality and opportunities to connect woth fellow CAT therapists in varied reflective spaces.
During COVID we met monthly, on-line. The many topics discussed have included: CAT in the age of algorithms; Spaces In-between; Play; Poverty; Identity; Creativity; Resilience; Non-verbal Approaches; Giving & Receiving Support Supervision of forensic teams and 5-Session Consultancy.
Following our planning and renewal meeting on Sept 28th 2024, we have a number of proposals for forthcoming “CAT on the Cumbrian Sofa” meetings. These include discussions on:- Reciprocal Roles in organisations; CAT, Justice and Family Courts; Personal Reformulations; Intersectionality.
We aim to pay attention to the theme of self-care in all our meetings. If you would like to suggest a topic, contribute, or, better still, lead a discussion, please contact us.

CAT South West has been offering opportunities for regionally based CPD for ACAT members in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Bristol for over 25 years.
The aim is to collectively support our work as therapists, meet ACAT CPD requirements and offer a networking platform for CAT therapists and trainees who have shared special interests. Previous events have focused on CAT with Eating Disorders; Complex Cases; Our Relational Selves and Narcissistic Wounding; Embodied CAT & Trauma; Object Relations and Working with Addictions as well as workshops on CAT Groups; Working with Couples and creating CAT diagrams.
Meetings
ACAT members in the South West have expressed an interest in attending up to three regional CPD workshops each year, however COVID-19 has for now restricted our options and we are working on creating on-line CPD events and networking opportunities. Social media has come into its own and is a good way to support local CAT special interest groups. The programme aims to be responsive to the need for carer and child-care friendly, accessible CPD. Please see the ACAT events section or sign up to our mailing list for updates.
A steering group has formed to support the development of the CPD programme and networking between CAT therapists spread throughout the South West.
Organisers
The current steering group is Tim Sheard, Fi Conington, Lorraine Furneaux, Simon Mitchell, Elisa Rivera and Yvonne Stevens. We welcome new members to the group from Dorset and Bristol.
